DESCRIPTION and COST:
May is Celiac Awareness Month, and your kids won’t want to miss our celebration–with special guest, Skylar from The Skylar Project! All of the many details are below, including how your kids can submit their positive thoughts on having celiac disease/being gluten-free in advance of the event and what you can donate to our Celiac Awareness Month GF food drive. Hope you can join us!
MEET SKYLAR OF THE SKYLAR PROJECT!
Meet Skylar, diagnosed with celiac disease at 6 years old. It has now become her mission and “project” to promote celiac awareness to the world. Skylar has teamed up with Posh Stones Accessories in designing these handmade bracelets to raise money for celiac research. All profits from “The Skylar Project” will be donated to celiac research. It is Skylar’s hope that a cure for celiac disease will soon be found.
Skylar will share her inspiring story with our group and take our questions. Plus, her beautiful bracelets will be available for purchase!

KIDS, SHARE YOUR POSITIVE THOUGHTS ON CELIAC DISEASE!
We’d like to collect positive quotes from the kids in our group about having celiac disease/being gluten-free–and share them at this event. If your child/ren would like to participate, here are some questions they can answer (email GenerationGF.NorthernNJ@gluten.org the answers by 5/5, please)! We respect privacy, so we won’t mention any names when we share the quotes at our event.
1. What do you like about having celiac disease?
2. What is the best part about being gluten-free?
3. What advice would you give to other kids your age who are new to being gluten-free or having celiac disease?
4. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
DONATE NON-PERISHABLE GF FOOD TO OUR CELIAC AWARENESS MONTH FOOD DRIVE!
We hate the thought of someone with celiac disease going to a food bank and not finding food that is safe for them to eat. So we decided to hold a food drive at our May 12th Celiac Awareness Month Celebration. If you’d like to participate, please bring a non-perishable gluten-free item(s) to the event; we will donate all of the items to the Center for Food Action in Englewood, NJ. Here are their preferred foods:
Canned, jarred and boxed non-perishable items are desirable due to their long shelf life, however, we do accept donations of fresh produce. High-protein items are preferred as they provide better nutritional value. Please make sure that cans are not rusted, creased or bloated as we may have to discard them for food safety reasons. We also cannot accept opened food items.
HELP SPREAD AWARENESS OF GENERATION GF!
We’ll have a supply of Generation GF magazines for those of you who would like to hand some out to your school nurse and/or doctors to make sure gluten-free families in our area know about our resources.
