EVENT: Empower Our Kids to Face the Social Challenges of Growing Up Gluten-Free
DATE: Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley, 250 Old Hook Road, Westwood, NJ
Let’s face it: While the GF diet helps keep our kids healthy, it’s not always easy growing up gluten-free. In an effort to empower our gluten-free kids, we will be welcoming Dr. Deena Abbe, licensed psychologist, to our September meeting. She will lead the kids in an informal discussion about the social issues that affect kids who have celiac disease or who are otherwise gluten-free–from having to bring “different” food to parties and playdates, to not being able to go to all the same restaurants as their friends, to perhaps being teased sometimes or feeling left out if there are certain activities they can’t participate in because of their dietary restrictions.
This will be a great chance for our kids to get to talk about how they feel about being gluten-free, perhaps role-play certain challenging situations that might come up, and get tips on constructive ways to handle them.
Gluten-free kids of all ages are welcome, and free samples of Libre Naturals granola bars and Rise Buddies snacks will be available!
