One of the hardest things as a parent, or caregiver, of a child who has celiac disease or gluten sensitivity is being comfortable with the idea of your son or daughter eating outside of your home. Most of the time, you are probably with them at restaurants or food service locations to help them make the right choices and to assure that the staff understands his or her dietary needs. There are situations though, such as school trips, where you can not be there for them 100% of the time.
To assist with these circumstances, GIG has developed a School Trip Letter to help you explain your child’s restrictions to the facility they will be visiting. This document also provides some detailed information as to where gluten is found and talks of the importance of clean utensils and serving pieces to avoid cross-contamination. Please take the time to complete this printable version and fully utilize the resources available to help your children when you can’t be there.
