One of the hardest things as a parent, or caregiver, of a child that has celiac disease or gluten-related sensitivities is being comfortable with the idea of your son or daughter eating outside of your home. Most of the time, you are probably with them at restaurants or food service locations to help them make the right choices and to assure that the staff understands his or her dietary needs. There are situations though, such as with school trips, that you can not be there for them 100% of the time.
To assist with these circumstances, GIG has developed a School Trip Letter to help you to explain your child’s restrictions to the facility where they will be visiting and within the proximity of food. This document also provides some detailed information as to where gluten is found and talks of the importance of clean utensils and serving pieces to avoid cross-contamination. Please take the time to complete this printable version and fully utilize the resources available to help your children when you can’t be there.
