Every new school year, your kids are excited, but maybe nervous too. New classroom, new teacher, new responsibilities. As a parent, the 1st day of school is nerve-wracking for you as well. Those jitters are only more increased when you have a child with special diet needs. Just when you had established a level of understanding with last year’s teacher and started to feel comfortable that they understood your son’s or daughter’s needs, summer break comes and you’re back at square one. The entire process, year after year, can be tedious and frustrating.

Here, we have provided a document that we hope will help you to open the communication with your new teacher. This letter provides the teacher(s) with a brief introduction to your child’s needs and highlights some basics that are important for them to know when spending the day with your student. More importantly, it helps to proactively start the conversation, hopefully provides you with some peace of mind that your child’s needs are understood, and allows you to concentrate on other things such as what to pack for lunch and gathering all the school supplies.
