A lifelong history of symptoms started at the age of about six months when as a baby I could not gain weight, my mother tried everything, including moving to the beach as the doctor recommended for the sea air to help open up my appetite, I battled with Alopecia Areata as a child and given Benadryl for my “nerves” I did not realize that there was something wrong with me even as I graduated from nursing school and worked at the local hospital. I often thought that my abdominal pain was much worse than the patients that I was entrusted to care for. Abdominal pain was always a symptom along with brain fog. As I became pregnant and started to bear children, I had severe migraine headaches, fatigue and brittle hair and nails, my teeth were lacking calcium and I never felt right! My second baby was SGA (small for gestational age) and I had polycystic ovarian disease which needed weekly ultrasound monitoring. Now that child has grown up to be a woman with mixed connective tissue disease and after a long battle, she has chose to be totally gluten free, otherwise, she feels more miserable. Now in my 50’s I still battle Brain fog, esophageal spasms, fatigue, constipation or loose bowels, my abdominal symptoms may stem from contaminated food.
